Caitlin ClarkRookie card search leads to ‘700%’ surge

Caitlin Clark is undoubtedly one of the most prominent athletes in the sports stratosphere. The Indiana Fever guard shattered record after record en route to coming one vote shy of being a unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year, while also ending her team’s playoff drought that was rapidly approaching a decade. With her ascension to other-worldly popularity on the court, fans are in hot pursuit of anything Clark-related off of the court.
With trading cards surging back into prominence in recent years, it isn’t surprising that Clark’s cards are becoming one of the hot commodities in the market. In a recent report by The Athletic’s Brooks Peck, it was revealed that the WNBA’s 2024 Prizm set, released on Feb. 12, has been selling for an average of $1,200. This mark is quite a step up from the 2023 collection, which Peck revealed was going for $150.
“WNBA and NBA Prizm hobby boxes each contain 12 packs with 12 cards in each pack and a guarantee of two autographed cards per box,” wrote Peck. “Hobby boxes of 2023 WNBA Prizm carried a suggested retail price of $150, which means the price of the latest release marks a 700 percent increase.”

Peck later confirmed that while the WNBA’s overall popularity is rising, Clark is at the forefront of it. Her WNBA gold vinyl card sold at auction for $234,850 this past December. A lucrative amount that Peck expects Clark’s Prizm will surpass when someone eventually pulls it and lists it for sale.

In terms of just how high the demand is for Clark cards, Peck revealed that a study via eBay concluded that she only trails Victor Wembanyama and LeBron James in terms of most-searched active basketball players.

Evidently, whoever pulls that Clark card is essentially winning the lottery.
